Biggest Names in Pop Music

Homes of Pop Star
For some entertainers, real estate purchases and sales are infrequent. For others, the hits keep on coming. This collection of pop star homes includes a luxury condo purchased by one of the biggest breakout stars of 2012—who thus far has only one U.S. hit—as well as someone with more hits than you can count. The latter put two properties on the market within two months of each other.
The homes range from a New York duplex on Central Park to a tricked-out California compound to a standard newly built villa in a gated community. C

Psy
Location: Los Angeles
Price: $1.25 million
Bedrooms: 2
Bathrooms: 2 full 1 half
Square Footage: 2,700

Toward the end of 2012, the year K-pop star Psy exploded into American pop culture, the star of the most viewed YouTube video of all time put down $1.25 million of his "Gangnam Style" money for a condo in Blair House. The high-rise building is in the Westwood area of L.A. and has a concierge, valet parking, tennis, pool and spa. With those luxuries comes a hefty homeowners association dues of $2,141 a month. The Real Estalker blog notes that Psy's apartment is located on "a very pedestrian lower floor." Psy's new stable has an eat-in kitchen, a den, a balcony, and, perhaps its most Gangnam feature, mirrored walls with a gas fireplace.

Rihanna
Location: Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Price: $14.95 million
Bedrooms: 7
Bathrooms: 9
Square Footage: 11,000

Rihanna recently purchased this new-build home in the L.A. hills, which has an outdoor entertaining zone consisting of a zero edge swimming pool with arcing water features, a partially covered patio lounge and sundeck, a barbecue and bar, and a 6,000-square-foot garden area. The interior gets lots of natural light through many floor-to-ceiling glass walls and doors, and the kitchen has 14-foot ceilings.

The 24-year-old Barbadian singer also bought a five-bedroom house for her mother in her home country last year, according to the Daily Mail. She seems to have chosen better this time when buying for herself than with her other house, which had extensive water damage that led to a lawsuit.

Madonna

Location: New York
Price: $23.5 million
Bedrooms: 6
Bathrooms: 8
Square Footage: 6,000

In the first of two recent real estate moves, Madonna listed her longtime Upper West Side duplex for sale in November. It has 110 feet of frontage onto Central Park and French doors leading out to Juliet balconies from which to view the park or channel Evita Peron while addressing the masses in song. The co-op in Harperly Hall was decorated by Madge's brother Christopher Ciccone and featured in Architectural Digest. It also has five wood-burning fireplaces, four bedroom wings, sound and humidifier system, and according to the listing with Brown Harris Stevens, "endless closet space." The building has a manned gate house at the central courtyard entrance and a roof garden.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Madonna then kicked off 2013 by officially listing her remodeled Beverly Hills mansion for $22.5 million (although the Real Estalker says the mansion had already been quietly offered as a pocket listing). That property, which Madonna bought in 2003 from actress Sela Ward, would continue to appeal to professional entertainers since it includes two offices with space for assistants, two guest houses and a resort-size pool.

Drake
Location: Hidden Hills, Calif.
Price: $7.7 million
Bedrooms: 7
Bathrooms: 9
Square Footage: 7,444
Rapper and actor Drake bought this Hidden Hills compound last year from Larry Pollack, the owner of the Saddle Ranch Chop House chain of restaurants, who spent four years restoring and renovating. Among those features he added was a multimillion dollar pool with waterfalls, slide and grotto, as well as a volleyball court, mechanical bull, commercial bathrooms, a tennis court and equestrian facilities. The Tudoresque compound originally had an asking price of $27 million.
